WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS THIS WEEK?

We have a busy week, but hopefully, we can settle into a normal routine now that short weeks are over, and I am back in the classroom :)  We are going to finish our notes on South Africa Apartheid on Monday, review the history we learned last week (Pan-Africansim, Nationalism, Independence, and Apartheid) by playing a review game on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, we will compare Kenya and Nigeria post independence and look at their education, government, and economic status.  Thursday will be spent looking at the independent governemnents and economics in major countries of Africa, and Friday we will take a closer look at the health and environmental issues Africa faces today.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS THIS WEEK?

This week is another short week.  We are going to power through the rest of Africa's history including independence, and apartheid.  Next week I will introduce the environmental issues project with relevant dates.  We will look at Africa's government and economics post independence.  Our goal is to be gin India on February 1st which means we should be testing over Africa by January 31st.

WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS THIS WEEK?

It's the GEO BEE!!!!!!!!  Tuesday and Wednesday we will be completing the 7 preliminary orals rounds of the GEO followed by a written test for those who survive the oral rounds.  Stayed tuned for more information about the Dodgen GEO BEE.  Once we complete the GEO BEE we will be diving back into the history of Africa with a closer look at the effects of European imperialism in Africa.  Make sure you are reviewing your map of East and Equatorial Africa for a map quiz the middle of next week!

Monday & Tuesday we will finish up cultures by looking at medicine, traditional African religion, and Griots.  I will introduce the Griot presentations everyone will share next week.  Tuesday we will begin our study of African history by completing an African history map with a partner.  The rest of the week we will check our East & Equitorial Africa Map, and learn about the effects of European Imperialsim in Africa.

Monday we will wrap-up our cultural dinner parties and study for the West Africa map quiz on Tuesday by completing map relays.  Tuesday we have a West Africa map quiz then read about the origin of Kente cloth & try our hand at making Kente cloth using construction paper.  Wednesday and Thursday will be spent reviewing the African biomes and cultures in preparation for the assessment on Friday.  Friday after the Biomes & Cultures assessment, we will finish our Kente cloth, work on the east/equitorial Africa political map, play a few rounds of the ancient African game of Mancala, and 10 days in Africa.

WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEK?

Monday will be spent deep within the 4 main biomes of Africa completing a cloze activity on the physiographic regions of Africa.  Depending on how Monday goes, we will have to finish our biome cloze activity on Tuesday.  We will begin our transition into the cultures of Africa on Wednesday.  We will participate in a cultural dinner party the end of the week.  On Friday, as we wrap-up our dinner parties, we will complete several West Africa map races in preparation for our West Africa map quiz on Tuesday, 12/6.  I am sure the next three weeks will fly by!

WHAT'S GOING ON THIS WEEK?

Now that we have looked at the general physiographic features of Africa, we are going to take a closer look at how the geography affects the people of Africa by looking at one area at a time.  We are starting with West Africa this week.  We will also play a History of Africa Geography race this week and check out Africam.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Thaksgiving Break!

WHAT'S GOING ON IN CLASS THIS WEEK?

We are focusing our lessons on learning all about the physical geography of Africa.  On Monday we will view a PowerPoint about the 4 types of deserts then in a small group analyze pictures of deserts and determine which type of desert the picture displays.  Tuesday is a teacher workday, hopefully, everyone will take advantage of the extra day and study for the map quiz (especially since most math classes have a test or quiz the end of the week as well)!  Wednesday we will go over the desert pictures together and use Sheppard Software to review for the quiz Friday.  Thursday and Friday (after the quiz).  We will take a closer look at the water systems and dams in Africa.
