Friday, January 27th

CRCT Review questions 23 and 24.  Students completed a task rotation on slope and writing equations in slope intercept form.  Students were given time to continue working on their Flipper Project. (Most students have all 10 of the first sub unit cards completed and taped to the left side of their folder)  They should be using these cards to prepare for assessments.   I collected their CRCT review questions spiral notebook and checked for the first 20 questions for effort. 

No Homework. 

CRCT Review questions quiz on Tuesday, January 31st - 10 quiz questions over the first 20 review questions.  Unit 5 part I test is Thursday, February 2nd.  There will be a study session that morning at 8:15.   

Thursday, January 26th

All classes:  CRCT review questions 21 and 22.

Advanced Math 8:  Linear Equations Round table activity in groups of four.  Students worked with writing equations in slope intercept form, creating a table, graphing from a table, and identifying the slope from the graph.  Students were given time in class to continue working on their Flipper Project.

On Level Math 8:  Students continued working with writing equations in slope intercept form:  given the slope and y-intercept; given a line on a graph, given the slope and a point, and given two points.  Students discovered how to write an equation in slope intercept form from a table and an arithmetic sequence. 

NO HOMEWORK!  CRCT quiz 1 on Tuesday and Unit 5 Part I test on Thursday

Wednesday, January 25th

All classes: CRCT review questions 19 and 20. Quizlet on graphing a line from an equation and writing an equation in slope intercept form given the slope and a point.

Advanced Math 8: Continued working on their Culminating Task: Is the data linear?

NO HOMEWORK!

If you are going to Orlando, you needed to turn in your CRCT spiral notebook for me to grade as well as pick up a yellow packet which is a copy of the Performance Task we are doing in class on Thursday. DO NOT complete this on your trip! Enjoy your trip and tell Mickey I said HELLO! I am changing the due date to no later than Wednesday, February 1st (the earlier the better!). It should not take more than 30-45 minutes. Remember our Unit 5 Part I test is Thursday, February 2nd. We will miss you!

Tuesday, January 24th

All classes:  CRCT Review questions 17 and 18.  (I will be collecting spiral notebooks this week to check for the completion of questions 1-20.  There will be a quiz over these 20 questions on Tuesday, January 31st.) The quizlet tomorrow will be over writing equations in slope intercept form from a graph AND when given the slope and a point. 

Advanced Math 8:  Algebra I textbook Chapter 5, section 7:  Point slope form.  HW:  Workbook pages 36 and 37.

On Level:  Guided notes on Writing Equations given two points.  HW:  WS problems 1-10 all.

Monday, January 23rd

ALL Math Classes:  CRCT review questions 15 and 16.  I spoke with students individually to go over their Unit 5 Slope quiz from Friday.  Weak areas:  INTEGERS ( a negative divided by a negative is a positive), checking to see that your slope matches your graph (If the graphed line has a negative slope then your fraction needs to be negative) and x = is an undefined slope/crosses the x axis and a y = is a zero slope and crosses the y axis. 

The Monday Review sheet is practice for writing equations in slope intercept form and identifying the slope and y-intercept as well as graphing a line given its equation in slope-intercept form.  This is an Anchor activity to be completed in class and turned in on Tuesday, January 31st.   You MUST show your work on a separate sheet of paper for the "Purpose of Homework" page

 Advanced Math 8:    Guided Notes on Writing Equations with a Slope and a Point AND Writing Equations from Two Points.  Students picked their group of four students for the Culminating Task:  Is the Data Linear?  HW:  WS Writing Linear Equations Problems 1-12 AND WS Writing Equations Given Two Points 1-10 all. 

Math 8:   Guided Notes on Graphing Using Slope and Y -intercept.  Guided Notes on Writing Equations with a Slope and a Point.  HW:  WS Writing Linear Equations Problems 1-12 all. 

 

Friday, January 20th

CRCT review questions 13 and 14.  We reviewed the Slope Review Worksheet in great detail.  Students completed the Unit 5 quiz 1.  After the quiz, students worked on up to 8 of their Flipper project cards.  This project will be completed during class time throughout this entire unit.  If a student does not have the 8 cards complete, NO WORRIES!  We will have additional time next week to complete them.

Thursday, January 19

We reviewed in GREAT DETAIL how to write an equation in slope-intercept form.  We identified the value in the "m" position and the value in the "b" position.  We "b"egin graphing with the "b" - the point on the y-axis.  We then RISE UP - if our slope is negative we "run" to the negative numbers (left) if our slope is positive we "run" to the positive numbers (right).  To plot more points we move the opposite way (For example, up right, then down left)   We then used a graphed line to write the line in slope intercept form by finding the "m" by using rise/run and finding the "b" by finding the point on the y-axis in which the line crossed.  y  =  ____  x  +   _____       HW:  Study Guide for the quiz tomorrow. 

Tuesday, January 17th

We continued with CRCT review questions 9 and 10.  We reviewed the four types of slopes, the four ratios for slope, finding slope from a graph using rise/run, and using the slope formula to find slope from two ordered pairs.  There was a quizlet on these topics today.  (Advanced Math also had x and y intercepts)  Students continued to practice writing equations in slope intercept form.  Today we identified the "m" and the "b" from the equation.  We began with the b and used slope (rise/run) to graph more points.  Because the Writing Test is tomorrow, there is no homework tonight!  Finish the worksheet and graphing the equations by Thursday. 

Friday, January 13th

All students have a CRCT Review spiral notebook, composition notebook, or pocket folder with brads that they are writing our CRCT review warm up questions in.  We completed questions 7 and 8 today.  We created our second flipper card - Slope.  Students were given the slope intercept form of an equation and now can "sing" the equation to the tune of "YMCA".  There is no homework - enjoy the long weekend!

Thursday, January 12th

Students "cut and pasted" CRCT review questions 5 and 6 in their CRCT spiral notebook. We practiced using rise/run when we went on a "treasure hunt". Students took a quizlet on the four types of slopes. 99% of my students earned a 100% today! Students took notes on finding slope using the formula "y sub 2 - y sub 1 / x sub 2 - x sub 1". Students labeled the two ordered pairs as (x sub1, y sub 1) and (x sub 2, y sub 2). We complete at least 2 examples together in class. Students worked on problems 3 - 8 in class so they could ask questions if they had any difficulty. The answers from last night's homework should match the answers to tonight's homework.
