Art Club

Art Club is open to all students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. We will meet on Thursday mornings at 8:15 AM before school beginning on September 16th.

Listen to morning announcements  to hear about the first meeting.

Dodgen Olympics

The Dodgen Olympics is scheduled for 4/30, 5/3 and 5/4. Students will not have their Connections class during those days. All projects will be completed after the Olympics.

Sunfaces

6th grade students are creating brightly painted sunfaces that will reflect the Aboriginal style of dot painting. We have discussed combining two cultures into one project: the sunface symbol from Central America and the dot painting from Australia.

Sculpture

7th grade students are creating imaginative 3-dimensional scultures using re-cycled cardboard. They will use oil pastels to add color and texture to the surface of the cardboard. The sculptures will be completed with the addition of other details and re-cycled materials.

Peter Max Painting

8th grade students have learned about the artist Peter Max and are creating a painting that uses some of the same motifs that are seen in so many of his poster designs. They are learning about color mixing and painting color gradations as well as composition.

Keith Haring Designs

8th grade students are learning about the artist Keith Haring and creating a drawing using two figures inspired by his simple drawing style.

They will see a video about his life, explore a web site for students,(www.haringkids.com) and create their own figures to use in their final drawing.

Notan Designs

7th grade has begun a project called "Expansion of the Square" using the ancient Japanese concept of Notan, which refers to the relationship of dark and light in a design.

They are creating a practice piece and then will be ready to tackle their final large Notan Design. This will be done using a square of colored constuction paper.

Personality Bottle

6th grade students will be creating a Personality Bottle. They will need to bring  an empty plastic (approximately 20-22oz.) bootle witha lid to use in this project. This bottle should be an example of their favorite drink or soda.They also need to collect objects that they will use on the bottle that represent something about them. We will paint and assemble the final project in class.

They are currently drawing their hands and filling the space with drawings and symbols of things that tell something about them.  This should help them think about some of their unique qualities and characteristics and also generate ideas of objects to look for at home to use on their bottles.
