Below are links to our class syllabus, and our Unit 5 parent letter. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. There is no need to notify me ahead of time if you plan to attend - just show up and be ready to learn.

MATH 8:

On Thursday: After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked last night's homework and then completed a station rotation to review slope.

HOMEWORK: Work on Project

On Friday: I will be absent. Students will complete a CRCT review warm-up and then will complete a slope review packet with a partner to prepare for next Thursday's test. Afterwards, students will have class time to work on their projects.

Wednesday, January 25

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked the homework and then took a short quizlet on slope. They spent the remainder of the period working on their project/working on homework/re-doing or making up quizzes or quizlets.

HOMEWORK: Complete the "Writing Equations Homework" worksheet

PROJECT: The first 8 cards were due this past Monday. Several students did not turn them in. Please get these 8 cards done by Friday to receive a stamp.

TEST: Thursday, February 2 

CHORUS KIDS: Have fun at Walt Disney World!! :) You all received a yellow review packet. It is due on Tuesday, Jan. 31. We will be doing this (plus other review activities) in class while you are away. Say hello to Mickey for me!! :)

 

Tuesday, January 24

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked their homework and then took notes on how to write an equation in slope-intercept form from two points. We solved three example problems in class. Tomorrow we will take a 4 question quizlet, review all that we've learned this week, and you will have time to work on your project.

HOMEWORK: Choose any 6 problems to complete on the "Writing Equations Given Two Points" worksheet

MONDAY, JANUARY 23

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students discussed the Unit 5 Flipper Project and were given time to ask questions. FYI, we will spend some time in class on Wednesday and Friday working on this project in class. After our discussion, we took notes on how to write an equation when only given the slope and one point. Download Writing Equations from slope and a point notes

HOMEWORK: Complete any 6 problems on the "Writing Linear Equations" worksheet to earn a stamp. To earn an extra credit point on your stamp sheet, complete all 12 problems. You must show ALL steps either way.

Friday, January 29

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked last night's homework and were given the opportunity to ask questions before the quiz. We then took the quiz. After the quiz, students began working on their Unit 5 Project. I provided index cards and folders to them and showed example projects from previous years.

HOMEWORK: Complete the first 8 index cards on your Unit 5 flipper project assignment. You do not need to tape them into your folder just yet (you may if you wish). I'll just be checking on Monday to see if you've written the resource, definition/steps, and an example on the back. To find definitions you may refer to your worktext, in-class notes, your on-line textbook (the username/password is in your agenda), or the internet.

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked last night's homework and reviewed for tomorrow's quiz. We also learned how to write an equation in slope-intercept form from looking at a graphed line.

Wednesday, January 18

MATH 8:

Due to the Writing Test and our guest speaker J. Tom Morgan, we were on a modified schedule. I only saw my 1st and 2nd period students. Those students reviewed how to find slope from a graph using rise/run, and also how to find slope when you're given two points using y-y/x-x. Homework was assigned to all classes yesterday and will be due tomorrow.

HOMEWORK: Please complete the worksheet "Graphing Lines" front and back (all problems on front, evens only on the back).

Tuesday, January 17

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked Friday night's homework and discussed how to identify the slope and y-intercept from an equation written in slope-intercept form. They were then taught how to graph an equation when it is written in slope-intercept form. We practiced several problems in class and I worked with those who were struggling.

HOMEWORK: Complete the "Graphing Lines" worksheet front and back - please complete all 6 problems on the front and then only the evens on the back. This is a great review worksheet to prepare you for Friday's quiz.

Thursday, January 12

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students checked last night's homework and then learned how to calculate the slope of a line when only given two points on that line. We learned the formula for finding slope from two points, which is m= y-y/x-x. We then proved this formula by graphing those same points on a coordinate plane and calculating slope by using rise/run. Students solved several practice problems in class and then started on their homework.

HOMEWORK: "Duck" worksheet. EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY: Complete the "Finding Slope when given two points" worksheet that we started in class.

MATH 8:

After a CRCT review warm-up, students discussed and practiced how to find the slope of a graphed line by counting RISE/RUN. We then completed a worksheet in class with a partner for additional practice. We ended the class with a quizlet on identifying positive, negative, zero and undefined slope.

HOMEWORK: Complete "Slope" worksheet that you did last night...only tonight I would like for you to calculate the slope by counting the RISE/RUN.
