Mon:  Today we watched the "Africa in Transition" video clips  HW:  Complete our wrap-up activity for exiting Africa, what do you know now that you did not know before 7th grade!!  HW:  15 or more good facts on each topic "Awesome Africa WS is due on Tues.  AND gather your entries from Africa Unit II Notebook check on Tues.  1/31.

Mon:  Today the students worked on completing the discussion questions from our novel study.

          HW:  Finish the WS's on IQBAL---due on Tues.  

Tues:  Read our novel--IQBAL  HW:  Rec. read. I will take a 600 pages Quiz grade on Friday 2/3.  

Wed:   Read in IQBAL.  HW:  Rec. Read

Thurs:    Read in IQBAL.  HW:  Rec. Read  Please bring your signed book log on Fri. (This is a quiz grade!)

Fri:  TODAY I WILL TAKE A QUIZ GRADE FOR READING 600 PAGES IN YOUR READING LOG.  YOU MAY COUNT IQBAL AS 200 PAGES.  (bE SURE TO GET A PARENT SIGNATURE ON THE BOOK LOG!)  REC. READ TODAY. 

SS-Literacy Apps.- Melton Jan 23 to Jan 27

Mon:  Read IQBAL HW:  Essay for L#8 is due Tues.

Tues:  Read IQBAL, Collect Essay for #8.  HW:  Rec read and be sure L#8's WB pages are done.

Wed:  Read IQBAL, HW:  Rec read.  Do L#8's practice words and study vocab words for your quizzes.

Thurs:  Take L#8's Vocab and spelling quizzes.  Read IQBAL. HW:  Rec. Read.

Fri:  We will not do rec reading today, instead we will read in IQBAL.  HW:  Rec. Read.

 

SS-Melton Jan 23 to Jan 27

Mon:  Today the students took the Chapter 2 CRCT Quiz, worked on 4 years of Conflict in the DRC WS which is due on Tues. and Read Chapter 3 to prep for the CRCT Quiz on Thurs., pgs. 114 and 115. If you are "using your thinker", you will do these 2 pages for HW and bring in your answers on Thurs.

Tues:  Grade the 4 years of conflict Entry #11 and show Health Issues info.  Read over green sheet and work on the Obstacles to Education in Africa WS  Entry #14 --Due Wed.

Wed:  Grade Obstacles to Ed. WS and do the study guide for the End of Unit TEST for Africa which is on Fri.  HW: Study Guide is due on Thurs.

Thurs:  Take the Chapter 3 CRCT Quiz in class and go over study guide in class.  HW:  STUDY FOR THE TEST.

Fri:  Take the End of Unit TEST and  do the South Asia Map Study---Due on Tues.

 

SS-Literacy Mrs. Melton Jan 17 thru Jan 20th

Tues:  Take Vocab and Spelling Quizzes for L#7.  Start L#8.  HW:  Do WB pages 74 and 75  due Thurs.

         AND always do your rec reading each night...you have 1,200 pages to read for this 9 weeks.

Wed:  Read the short story for L#8.  Do the WS's for L#8.  Start IQBAL, our first novel study.

Thur:  Read Iqbal in class.  HW:  Rec. read and be sure all of your L#8 work is done by Mon.

Fri:  I will try to sign us up to go the media center on Fri.  Rec reading day. And L#8's work is due Mon with the ESSAY due on TUES.

Tues:  Today I lectured through Imperialism and the HW is:  Dates of Independence 1900--2000 due Wed.

Wed:  Grade Dates of Independence and collect all Chapter 2 work.  View the 2 PPT's about Africa Independence and do 2 short stories on the Independence movements.

Thurs:  Today we viewed 2 PPT's about Africa.  (They are posted below.  We took classnotes on the first one and did a cloze activity on the second PPT--see attached)

Friday we will finish Imperialism and start Health and Environmental Concerns of Africa.

Start Health Issues facing Africa and do Chapter 2 Sec. 2 on notebook paper. We will do the CRCT Practice QUIZ on pgs 82 and 83 for a QUIZ GRADE. (HINT HINT!!  You may look over this BEFORE class!)

 

Fri:   Do the "Bias" WS  due Mon.We will do this TXBK QUIZ on Mon. Do CRCT QUIZ for pgs. 82 and 83.  Please be sure you have finished Chapt.2 sections 1 and 2 on notebook paper.

 

SS Literacy Applications-Mrs. Melton Jan. 10th thru Jan 13th

Welcome Back!!  I hope your Winter Break was a wonderful one!!

We will cover 2 novel studies this 9 weeks.  One is IQBAL and the second book is CLAY MARBLE. I have the books in the classroom and you do not need to purchase these titles.  You will be responsible for reading 1200 pages over this 9 weeks (of which 200 are from Iqbal and 200 are from Clay Marble)  I will take a quiz grade on Feb. 3rd for your first 600 pages.)  We will also cover 4 lessons in the Rev It Up WB.  I will be giving the Spelling and Vocab Quizzes for Lesson #7 on Thurs. Jan 12th.

Tues:  Intro to the course.  Complete the reading survey.  HW:  Read "Cutting Across Cultures" Ask your parents and/ or grandparents/ and/ or any other family members if they served in the Vietnam War.

Wed:  Read and discuss the "Cutting Across Cultures" article and complete the WS.  HW:  WS is due Thurs:  Also study for the L#7 Spelling and Vocab QUIZZES on Thurs.  Do your Practice words 3X's each

Thurs:    We needed pt go the lab on Thurs., so the 2 quizzes have been scheduled for TUES.

Fri:    We viewed "My Friend Martin", a video about MLK today.  HW:  Prep yourself for the spelling and vocab quizzes for Rev It Up's L#7 on Tues.  Finish the Cutting Across Cultures study, the WS is due on Tues. AND  Rec. Read.   Also your 3X's each for the spelling words is due on Tues.

Welcome Back!!!!  I trust your Winter Break was a wonderful one!  Thank you to sooo many of you who gave me gifts and/or cards!!  You are so fantastic!!!!

Tuesday:  Geography Bee.  HW:  Organize your SS Notebook for a grade it is due on WED.  I placed a copy of the Entry List on my blog.

Wednesday:  Finish the Geography Bee.  Collect the SS Notebooks.  HW:  Read and complete the Reading a Historical Map WS,  DUE on Thurs. Congratulations to my finalists:  Bailey Alter, Scott Bippert,  Kyle Xhanjanka, and Lauren Kutch!!   But, great fun was had by all!!!!!!!!  I challenge you go read and discover more facts on your own!!!! 

Thursday:  Discuss Imperialization of Africa, do Chapter 2 in TXBK (pgs 62 to 70), do Ahanti/Bantu WS, Check Imperialism of Africa WS.  Today I lectured on the Imperialization of Africa.  (Just WHY DID those Europians want Africa???)

Friday:  Do TXBK Chapter 2 Sec.. 1(pg.70 on notebook paper)  NOTICE   WE WILL HAVE A MAJOR ASSESSMENT TEST OVER THE FINAL TOPICS IN AFRICA ON JANUARY 27th.

Literacy Apps---Melton Mon thru Thurs 12/19 to 12/22

Mon:  Today we looked over the words for L#7.  Please do WB pgs. 64 and 65--Due on Wed.  Rec. Read!

          We will also have the Spelling and Vocab Quizzes for L#7 on Wed.  Practice words 3X's each will be due on Wed. of this week.  We are also finishing our novel study of IQBAL this week.  Please remember to have your parent sign your book log for having read 1200 pages this 9 weeks.  This book log will be checked on Wed. and it will be a QUIZ grade.

Tues:  Finish IQBAL and do the end of novel test.  See Monday's HW for tonight.

Wed:  We'll take the L#7 spelling and vocab QUIZZES and I will gather grades from your book logs.

Thurs:  Dodgen gives back day...no reading today.  I have enjoyed you as a reading class, I will miss you!  I wish you the Merriest of Holidays and please stay safe and return to us on Tues. 1/10.

          HW:  Read and do the Slave Trade WS and the Imperialism of Africa WS---Due on Tues.

Tues:  Today we will view  "The USS Constellation" video.  This discribes the slave trade and its impact on the continent of Africa.  We will also collect the Slave Trade WS.

Wed:  Finish the video from Tues. and read the TXBK pages on colonialism and slave trade and do the assigned work from the TXBK.--Due Wed.. after the break. (1/11) Chapter 2 pg 60 thru 70.  Do Vocabulary on pg 70 and Main Ideas 2,3 and 4 and Critical Thinking 5 and 6 (on notebook paper).

Thurs:  This is Dodgen Gives Back Day and our Holiday celebration. HW:  NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
