Week of 1/23/12 Reading 8th Grade - Co-taught / Small Group

Small group is being taught the small concept. - slower pace and perhaps a lower reading level if necessary

Monday thru Thursday - Reading Drills

Students will be given readings on a daily basis to give them practice with comprehension, critical thinking & vocabulary

Monday - Students will take Health Survey and get signed in to usatestprep.com

Tuesday - Introduction to theme

Week of 12/12 8th Grade Co-Taught & Small Group Reading

Monday - Thursday Warm-Ups - Comprehension - Nonfiction articles

Essential Questions: Will the student be able to draw conclusions from text ? Will the student be able to draw conclusions about the character, narrator, and speaker in literature ?

The students will be able to identify the conclusion in a factual article based on his/her process of making judgements, one's own experience, and reasoning.

Monday: review packet from last week - not able to give test on cause & effect will be reschedule for 12/19

Tuesday ; Introduction to Conclusion - Vocabulary\ worksheets

Questions & ans. about the project. Be ready Project is due tomorrow 12/14

Wednesday & Thursday An account  of all cereal box projects will be taken -

Students will present their projects & class will help assess their finished project

Friday : Finish up Projects if necessary - Media ctr. - Silent Reading

Week of 11/7/11 Reading Small Group

As of date there will be a blog for 8th grade small group. - Previously we were following the schedule for cotaught 8th grade Reading, but since we started reading The Cat Ate My Gymsuit.  We are behind. So as not to confuse anyone we will do a different blog.

Monday - Thursday - continue with warm-ups - Reading Drills

Essential Question: Will the student be able to make inferences from the text ?

 Objective: The student will be able to make inferences about setting, plot, and character in literature

 Monday - Introduction to Inferencing

Pass out lesson summary prior to givng out work sheet - discuss and have students give examples of what inferencing means to them

Homework - complete remaining worksheets for the Cat Ate My Gymsuit - Quiz on Wednesday

Students will read paragraph and answer questions looking for clues in the character's behavior

Identifying Clues

Use strategy of thinking like a detective- let students realize that the writer gives clues

Recognize the clues and let them draw logical conclusions (put clues together)

Friday - Silent Reading  Bring a book to read silently (if you are reading a different book for your Cereal Box Project - then you should be reading that book)

Essential Questions: Strategies to use in order to identify the elements of a plot and what strategies do I use in order to analyze the plot in a story

Monday - explain what the typical plot is made up of (series of related events and centers on a conflict /struggle or problrm - of the main character)

Introduce vocabulary words and read "The Grandfather and His Little Grandson"

Students must summarize the story and ask what the story reveals about human life ?

Tuesday -   go over student responses from the previous day and have them do practice worksheet "The Pied Piper of Hamelin"
