7th Grade Progress Reports

Progress reports for 7th graders were sent home with students today, 5/4/09.  They are a bit late becuase I wanted to finish our monologue unit first.  Since that monologues count as a Performance Grade (60% of their total grade), including the grade on the progress report will give a more accurate representation of student's overall work in my class.

Very important:  If students return the progress report, signed by a parent, on Wednesday, 5/6, they will recieve 100 as an extra credit homeowrk/quiz grade.  Every little bit of extra credit helps!

6th Grade Monologue Assignment

We have just begun our first performance assignment in class.  Students have chosen their poems to memorize and perform for the class.  They chose from a collection of poems by Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky.  This assignment is part of their performance grade which is 60% of their overall class grade.  There will be 2 such assignment (monologues and duos).  Students should be practicing at home with another person.  Ten-15 minutes a day is all that is needed for rehearsal time, nothing drastic.  Attached is the rubric that I will be using to evaluate each student.  We have reviewed the rubric in class so all students are aware of the expectations for the assignment.

7th & 8th Grade Monologue Assignment

7th & 8th Grade Monologue Rubric

We are in the middle of our first big performance assignment in 7th and 8th grade classes -- monologues.  There are 3 grades associated with this unit:

1.  Rehearsal Grade (Class Participation, 30% grade) is based on staying on task during rehearsals and having script in class every day.

2.  Line Check (Class Participation, 30% grade) is based on a "rough draft" performance of the monologue.

3.  Monologue Performance (Performance, 60%) is the final grade in this unit.  The rubric is attached for a better understanding of what I'll be grading on.  We have gone over the rubric in great detail in class.  Download monologue_rubric.doc

All students should be rehearsing at home with another person every night.  Ten-15 minutes or rehearsal every night is better than an hour the night before the assignment is due.

Line checks begin April 17 and final performances begin the week of April 27.

DVDs and pictures from the play

I've had some questions recently about purchasing DVDs from the play.  Attached is the order form which you can fill out and return to me with the payment included (payment info is included on the on the order form).  The deadline for orders was April 3 but we can still get copies from Mr. Miron.

Also, we are looking for pictures from the play.  Jordan S. is collecting them for "a surprise."  I don't even know what it is . . . If you've got photos or video, let me know.

Here's the DVD form:

Thank you!!!

Thank you to cast, crew, and parents of "Just Another High School Play"!  You were all amazing and the play was incredible thanks to each and every one of you!  I spent my Sunday missing everyone but I know we were all just a little bit happy to be able to sleep in instead of being at rehearsal at 7:30 a.m. this morning!

I am so lucky to have worked with such a talented group of people.  As I have mentioned before, I have never pushed a cast or crew so hard before.  You rose to the task every single time and I could not be prouder of you.

Cast and crew parents, thank you for your hours of volunteerism, carpooling, early mornings and late nights.  It meant so much to all of us to have you involved.

I just have one question.  What on earth am I supposed to do next year?!?

IT'S SHOWTIME!!!

"Just Another High School Play," Dodgen's Spring play, is running this weekend in the Dodgen Theatre, Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at 7:30.  Tickets are $7 each and can be purchased at the door.

Come see the craziness and mayhem that ensues when some students attempt to put on a play  without their director.  You won't believe your eyes.

Saturday Rehearsal Time

Hi Everyone,

We have decided to shorten Saturday's rehearsal by half an hour.  We'll end at 1:30 and we will not order pizza.  Students should bring a snack and water (no sugar drinks, juice, sports drinks, anything like that, only water).

Don't forget we've got rehearsal on Sunday from 1:00-4:00.  Next week's rehearsals are in the evening beginning at 6:00 each night.  For every rehearsal from Saturday through the end of the show, cast memebers need to come in full makeup.

Opening night is getting closer and closer!!!
