May 11-15: Language Arts

We are just ten days away from finishing another school year!  Our focus over the final two weeks will be poetry.  For those of you who cringe when you hear this word, don’t fret.  It will be fun and interesting!  You may even learn some things about your peers that you never knew before!  The title of our poetry unit is The World of Poetry” and it takes us around the world to experience various forms of poetry.  The resources below are crucial to your success with this project.  If you take advantage of your time in class, you should not have any more homework this year.  Here’s our schedule and important dates:

WEDNESDAY:

§         Continue drafting: Cinquain, Nanni, and Limerick

THURSDAY:

§         Last day to work on drafts in poetry packet.

§         Complete Terza Rima and Rondelet

§         Proofread and Revise all poems

May 4- 8: Language Arts

This week will be dedicated to creating a small piece of technical writing.  We will begin the week with an overview of our own employability.  Then we will be drafting and creating resumes that we would use for employment.  The only catch is... we will be doing this as if we were Greek gods or goddesses!  We are fortunate enough to have a special, day-long presentation regarding drug and alcohol awareness and prevention at the end of the week.  Here's our schedule:

MONDAY:

§         Finish Icarus and Daedalus Myth

§         Career Cruising Download Career Employability

Homework: Finish self-assessment on employment skills.

TUESDAY:

§         Gimme Five Activity Download Gimme FIVE!

§         Create your own Greek god/goddess.  Begin draft of your god’s or goddess’s resume.  (We will show examples in class and one can be downloaded below.  Be sure to follow the resume outline listed below)

April 27 - May 2: Language Arts

We are continuing our study of Greek mythology.  Last week we began Greek mythology with a short study of the most important/famous Greek Gods and the myth "Hercules".  We will continue this week with a few more classic Greek myths. 

Also, don't forget to wear your Olympic shirt Friday!

April 20- 24: Language Arts

This is a BIG week for us!  CRCT testing begins Tuesday. GOOD LUCK! Not that any of you need luck because you all have worked so hard this year, and I know you are ready!  Please remember to stay calm, get lots of rest, and eat a good breakfast every morning. After testing in the morning, we will be working on a short mythology unit.  Here is what the week will look like…

April 13-17 Language Arts

Welcome back from SPRING BREAK! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable vacation. We are just six days away from the beginning of our CRCT tests!  This week we will continue to prepare for our language arts CRCT test which will be the following Wednesday (April 22).  Our main focus will be on understanding vocabulary terms frequently used in Language Arts.  Each student should already have 70 flash cards created.  These flash cards will need to be reviewed every night in preparation for Friday’s TEST!
