Can you believe it is almost February? One more week and football will be gone until the fall. I hope you will enjoy our study of Solid Figures this week. We will be using much of what we've learned with measurement and even proportions from last 18 weeks as we study scale factor by the end of the week.

MONDAY: Today we turned in our projects. They look great! We went over Cheaper by the Dozen vocabulary #13-#17. Then we read Chapter 8 in Cheaper by the Dozen. Be prepared for a Ch 7 and 8 Open Book Quiz tomorrow. Remember to be reading each night so that you have your 450 pages by the 4 1/2 week mark!
Well, it may be raining outside again, but inside Measurement is Shining! This week we conclude our study on symmetry and begin studying and practicing with Units of Measurement. There are no help sessions this week, but Mrs. Burns will have one on Monday, January 30th at 8:15 in her room before our Symmetry and Measurement Quiz that day.

TUESDAY: Today, we went over homework, watched a Brain Pop on Customary Units and took lots of notes on Lesson 9-3 :Converting Customary Units Download Lesson 9-3 Notes. Students are to add 4 more staircases to their index card and complete Practice Workbook p. 77 Odds and Problem Solving p. 77 1- 8. TUESDAY: Today we completed Journal #8 Download Journal #8. We discussed the Cheaper by the Dozen Vocabulary Words #7-12 and talked about the Who Will Be Chosen project that we will begin in the computer lab tomorrow. Download Who Will Be Chosen-Proposals for Family Council Remember to bring a Flash Drive tomorrow so you can save your work in case you need time at home to finish it. It is due on Monday, January 30th.

THURSDAY: Today we went to the computer lab for the whole class period to work on our projects Download Who Will Be Chosen-Proposals for Family Council. You will not have any more class time for this project and these are due on Monday along with your copy of the rubric so be working on them at home. They look great so far. I can't wait to see the finished project.
FRIDAY: Today we completed Journal #10 Download Journal #10 and I checked to see that you are keeping up with all your journals. We then read Ch. 7 in Cheaper by the Dozen and read a book of our choice for the rest of the period. I read Garden in Paris, and it's getting really good! Rmember to keep up with your Reading Log. You must read 450 pages by 4 1/2 weeks (Feb. 7th). Have a great weekend.

WEDNESDAY: Today we discussed the time period of Cheaper by the Dozen and took a homework quiz over Chapters 1 and 2. I returned Vocabluary Assessments which were great! There is no homework tonight.
THURDAY: Today we answered Journal #5 Download Journal #5. It was fun to guess what item you were describing. We then went over Vocabulary 1-6 for Cheaper by the Dozen Download Cheaper by the Dozen Vocabulary 1-6. We then began reading Ch. 3. There was no homework!
FRIDAY: Today we answered Journal #6 Download Journal #6. We then listed to the audio CD of Ch. 3 and 4 of Cheaper by the Dozen and answered guided reading questions, which are due on Monday. Have a terrific weekend!
Welcome to 2012! I hope you had a nice break. My name is Mrs. Lucero and I will be teaching while Mrs. Smalley enjoys her precious new little Maddie.I have taught 7th grade here at Dodgen before and even attended Dodgen as a student for 6th, 7th and 8th grade. It is a great school, and I am glad to be back! I really enjoyed meeting each of you today. TUESDAY: Today I met each of you through an M & M or Skittles activity, we shared about our fun winter break activities, and begin filling out a Reading Survey Download Reading Survey-Short which is to be completed for homework. We will be working on vocabulary this week and start our novel study on Cheaper By the Dozen next week.
WEDNESDAY: We began Journal #1 today Download Journal #1, discussed the 3rd Nine Weeks Syllabus, which is to be signed and returned tomorrow. We then discussed Lesson 5 p. 43 in the REV IT UP books and began making flashcards for all 10 vocabulary words which is due tomorrow. Students will have the Lesson 5 Vocabulary Assessment on Tuesday, January 17th.
THURSDAY: Today students wrote Journal #2 Download Journal #2 and shared their 10 notecards for Lesson 5 vocabulary words . We completed p. 44-45 in the REV IT UP book which should be turned in tomorrow along with the signed syllabus if you did not do so today. Remember to be reading and keeping up with your reading log.

Madeline Kristi Smalley was born on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 10:19 PM. She weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces and was 21 inches long. She is a healthy little girl, and we are already so in love with her!
I hope that everyone enjoyed their holiday and vacation with family and friends. I will miss seeing all of you, and I will try to find time to bring in Maddie so that you can meet her. I know that you guys will love having Ms. Lucero, and you will continue learning lots of Math. Have fun and behave...

MONDAY: Today in class, we reviewed adding, subtracting, and multiplying one step equations in our warm up. You want to make sure that you look over this information before tomorrow:) Students came to the board to show their work for the warm up and homework answers. After we checked all of the answers, we learned Lesson 2-8: Dividing One Step Equations. This lesson can be confusing so make sure that you are using your notes when completing your homework: Download Advanced Notes - Dividing One Step Equations. For homework, students need to complete Handout pg. 70 #10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 (Download Handout pg. 70) and Handout pg. 202 (Middle column).
TUESDAY: Today in class, we learned How to Set Up and Solve One Step Equations using a graphic organizer. This lesson is important so make sure that you are using your notes from class when completing the homework: Download Solving Word Problems-Notes from Class. We also checked the Dividing One Step Equations homework, and students took a daily assessment over Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying One Step Equations. When they finished, they began working on the word problem handouts. For homework, the students need to complete Handout pg. 99(Download Vacation Trip-Handout pg. 99) and Handout pg. 100(Download Teacher Algebra-Handout pg. 100). Since we are taking the checkpoints on Wednesday and Thursday, these will need to be completed by Friday. Also, make sure that you are working on the Order of Operations and Equations performance task this week!

Because of the wonderful world of technology and time, we didn't get a chance to play the Number Cube game. FRIDAY: Today in class, we put our answers into I Respond for the checkpoint. When we finished putting our answers into I Respond, we reviewed the homework answers together from Handout pg. 99 and 100. After we checked homework, the students participated in the Order of Operations and Equations Performance Task. Because of the wonderful world of technology and time, we didn't get a chance to play the Number Cube game. MONDAY: Today in class, we wrote in our journals: Download Journal #19. After we shared our journals, we began reading Ch. 18 and 19 together in class. No homework!
TUESDAY: Today in class, we wrote in our journals: Download Journal#20. After we shared our journals, we finished reading Cheaper by the Dozen. When we finished reading, I introduced the final project for Cheaper by the Dozen: Download CBTD Project #2. Students will be working on this project in the computer lab on Wednesday and Thursday so make sure that you bring a flash drive to class tomorrow. The project is due on Monday December 19th! I will also be collecting all 20 journals for a classwork grade on Thursday. If you have missed any journals, you will need to look at my blog to make up the ones that you have missed.

TUESDAY: Today in class, we wrote in our journals: Download Journal #17. After we shared our journals, we finished reading Ch. 16. When we finished reading Ch. 16, the students began working on their vocabulary letter. They need to write a letter to a person of their choice using 20 of the 30 vocabulary words. They need to make sure that it flows like a letter, and it doesn't involve too many questions. The vocabulary letter is due on Thursday! You will have some class time to work on it tomorrow, but not the entire class period:)
WEDNESDAY: Today in class, the students took Ch. 15 and 16 Open Note Quiz. After they finished their quiz, they continued working on their vocabulary letter. The vocabulary letters are due tomorrow, and they need to make sure that they are studying for their assessment on Friday!
THURSDAY: Today in class, we wrote in our journals: Download Journal #18. After we shared our journals, I collected the vocabulary letters and returned What Will Everyone Get to the students. We reviewed for our vocabulary assessment tomorrow by playing Kaboom. The students played in groups to review for their assessment. For homework, students need to study for their vocabulary assessment tomorrow!
FRIDAY: Today in class, the students took their Cheaper by the Dozen Vocabulary Assessment. When they finished their assessment, they began reading Ch. 17. If they didn't finish reading Ch. 17, they need to finish it by Monday!

TUESDAY: Today in class, I introduced the What Will Everyone Get Assignment. Students will be participating in an activity involving find a gift for each child in Cheaper by the Dozen while practicing their Math skills. We will begin working on this assignment tomorrow in the computer lab, and it is due on Friday. It will count as a quiz grade! If they didn't finish them in class, they need to complete them for homework.
