Feb. 27- Mar. 2 Language Arts Assignments

             This week we will have the culminating activity for our research unit.  Students will have the option of dressing as their character and bringing one item associated with their person.  You will also need to bring your note card with guiding talking points.  The research paper is due on Monday.  Students have been provided a rubric and all four items for this project will need to be submitted in the following order from top to bottom:  RUBRIC, FINAL TYPED PAPER, WORK CITED, DRAFT.  Here is the plan for the week:

Feb. 21-24 Language Arts Assignments

            This will be an important week for our research project.  Drafts of your research paper must be completed prior to Tuesday as we will be doing peer editing.  A peer editing sheet will be used to guide students in class.  We have dedicated three days in the computer lab to publish our research papers.  If your time is used wisely, there shouldn't be a need to complete anything at home.  A flash drive is highly recommended in case you aren't able to finish this by the end of class Friday.  All research papers are due on February 27th.  Here is our schedule for this shortened week:

MON.   No school - Presidents' Day

Feb. 13-17 Language Arts Assignments

            We are in the middle of our research project at this point in Language Arts.  Students have collected their information and completed Tic-Tac-Toe choice activities which are due Monday.  There will be a short quiz to assess knowledge of the research process Tuesday.  The remainder of the week will be dedicated to drafting our research papers.  Students will need their source and note cards throughout the week.  Here's the schedule for the week:

Feb. 6-10 Language Arts Assignments

            We will be continuing our research project this week and it will be important to stay on top of your assignments in Language Arts.  Be sure you have your printed articles and the source cards to accompany each one.  Our goal is create a minimum of 5 source cards and 25 note cards.  We will have two days to research in the computer lab prior to beginning the tic-tac-toe assignment about your person.  Here are some resources and our schedule for the week:

Jan. 30-Feb. 3 Language Arts Assignments

           We have finished our grammar study focusing on complements and will be beginning the largest unit of the year this week.  The unit covers research and the ultimate goal is to compose a strong research paper.  The research paper will be focused on a specific person (either current or past) who has had to perservere and has made an impact on society in one way or another.  Prior to beginning the composition of the research paper, we will be covering all of the elements of proper research to gather information.  Here is our tentative schedule:

1)  Find a source with valid information about your person.  I recommond beginning with Cobb Virtual Library.  When in Cobb Virtual Library, try the Gale Student Resource Center or EBSCO.            

2)  Create a source card (If you are on Cobb Virtual Library, the citation is at the bottom of the article. If you aren't, you must copy the URL (web address) at the top of the page and paste it on www.bibme.org )

3)  Print out the entire article.  We will compile the notes on the note cards in class tomorrow.  Ultimately, you will need 5 separate sources minimum, but if you can bring in at least three sources with the printed articles tomorrow, it will work.

       During this shortened week we will be accomplishing a number of activities.  Any students that haven't previously shown their "How To" demonstrations and/or videos will be able to do so on Tuesday.  This is strictly optional and can serve as extra credit toward their expository essays.  At the end of the week we will focus on direct and indirect objects.  These are not parts of speech in a sentence, but rather a word or words that have a function in the sentence.  Students having difficulty are welcome to check out some of the resources listed below in this week's schedule.  Here's our schedule:

December 19-22 Language Arts Assignments

         It's our last week before winter break!  We have finished our noun and pronoun unit and will finish with a little bit of literature.  If you weren't able to take the noun/pronoun test last week because of chorus, you will need to take the test before school and will need to see me about getting a pass.  Thursday will be Dodgen Gives Back day.  On this day, we will be completing an activity for our community and in the afternoon, we will have our holiday party.  Here is our schedule:
