May 19-23 Language Arts

       We have made it to the LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL!  We will sit back and enjoy the creative minds of our seventh graders.  Students will share their poetry presentations Monday through Wednesday.  Here's our tentative plan.  Please check i-Parent prior to Wednesday as grades will be finalized for LA on this day.

May 12-16 Language Arts

            This week we change gears and move into a unit on poetry.  We will be traveling around the world to experience different types of poems from various countries.  The main tool students will be using is an interactive poem resource entitled "The World of Poetry".  Students will be receiving a World of Poetry packet in class on Monday.  We will also be using a World of Poetry Interactive Resource while in the computer.  You may attempt to download the resource below if you have the minimum computer requirements (Windows XP and Powerpoint 2003)

Here's the plan:

MON.    Receive poetry packet.  Download the_world_of_poetryrevised.doc Review the tasks that need to be completed in the packet.  Begin work in packet. HW: complete poems #1-5 in packet

TUES.   OLYMPICS FIELD DAY!  HW: complete poems #6-10 in packet

WED.   Computer lab - Begin creating presentation on Power point following packet guidelines. Save under your number. HW: complete drafts of poems if necessary.

THUR.  Computer lab - Continue work on presentation. Save under your number.  HW: none

FRI.     Computer lab - Last day to work on presentations, Presentations are due Monday. When you finish your presentation completely, save it in the studrive/Vanden Bergh/Your period - Poetry folder HW: none

May 12-16 Reading Assignments

         We are nearing the end of our journey with Mr. Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.  We will have a test on the book on Friday.  Be sure to update your books batted in by this Friday.  Your total should be at or above 25 books for the entire year.  Our last vocabulary test (Lesson #16) will be on the following Monday.  Here's our schedule:

MON.  Review Ch #15, Read Chapter 16 "A Thief in the Night" in The Hobbit ,  Complete Lesson 16 Keyword Activity Sheet

May 5-May 9 Language Arts Assignments

    This week we will continue studying Greek mythology.  We will be completing a technical writing piece, also.  The technical writing involves creating a resume.  The twist is that each student will choose a new, unique Greek god/goddess to become in order to create a resume for a job.  Details and a rubric will be given in class and a final copy of the resume will be due on Wednesday.  Here's the schedule:

MON.    Create your own Greek god/goddess.  Begin a draft of your god's or goddess's resume.  We will show examples in class or one can be downloaded below.  Be sure to follow the resume outline listed below.  HW: none

     This week we will be continuing CRCT testing and continuing our study of Greek myths and mythology.  We will be gaining more background information on mythology in order to create our on board games. *Reminder*  Please check i-Parent frequently as we have quite a few students with missing work.  Here's the schedule:

Apr. 14-18 Language Arts Assignments

        This week we will continue our preparations for next week's CRCT test.  It will be a combination of grammar and literature study.  Please study the CRCT vocabulary packets and become familiar with ALL the terms in both the grammar and literature packets.  We will be reading both short and long passages in class.  If you have been or will be absent, please ask for a copy to take home for make-up work.  Just a reminder - please keep current with all assignment grades on i-Parent. We have experienced some difficulties with the OAS testing and have extended the due date for OAS Language Arts Test #1,#2,#3, and #4 to Friday.  Here's the tentative schedule:

Mar. 31-Apr. 4 Language Arts Assignments

     Part of this week will be a continuation of last week's CRCT presentations.  The other portion of this week will focus on the terminology that is frequently used on the language arts section of the CRCT.  It will be critical to study the vocabulary terms given to each student on Wednesday.  Here's our tentative plan:
