   We will switch gears this week and spend some time reviewing grammar terms and introducing a few new ones.  Our focus this week is on NOUNS.  Some terms to become very familiar with are common and proper nouns, concrete and abstract nouns, compound nouns and collective nouns.  Here's the tentative plan for the week:

Nov. 2-6 Language Arts Assignments

    This will be the final week of our persuasive unit.  We have begun the drafting of our persuasive essays and will have the opportunity for peer revision/editing on Monday.  Students will need to turn in their typed persuasive essays on Friday.  We have provided three extra days for students to type the essays at home prior to Friday.  The rest of the week will be dedicated to grammar review and the creation of a group grammar board game.  Here's a few important items for the persuasive essay:

Nov. 2-6 Reading Assignments

   This shortened week will begin with the conclusion of our study of Lesson #5 vocabulary words.  The remainder of this week we will follow Bilbo Baggins into and out of the Mirkwood Forest in The Hobbit.  Remember that our 4 1/2 week reading log check point is November 11th.  At this point, all students should have completed a minimum of 3 books starting from the beginning of this nine week period.  Be sure to get parent signatures for books that you have read recently.  Do not get a signature until you have completed a book.   Here's our schedule:

     We will be continuing our study of persuasion this week with a focus on planning for our persuasive essays.  You have already received some of the notes on persuasion and writing a persuasive essay, and you will be provided notes and outlines to guide you with the format and requirements for the essay.  Here's a few presentations that may be helpful:

MON.  Persuasive Powerpoint Presentations  HW: none

TUE.   Persuasive Powerpoint Presentations  HW: print your three articles that provide facts to support your topic.  It is best to copy all three articles WITH CITATIONS and paste them into a Word Document.  If you use Cobb Virtual Library, the sources are cited for you at the bottom of the page.  If you do not use Cobb Virtual Library, paste the URL (web address) into www.bibme.org to complete your citation.

WED.  Begin drafting of introduction for persuasive essay.  You will need to complete your hook, transition sentences, and thesis statement by Thursday.  HW: complete draft for introduction of persuasive essay if necessary 

THU.  Write draft for your four body paragraphs.  This includes your three supporting arguments and opposing stance paragraph.  HW: complete draft of body portion of your essay if necessary.

FRI.   Write draft of conclusion for persuasive essay.  Check to ensure that you have included at least three facts, quotes, statistics, etc from at least three sources.  HW: complete draft of conclusion if necessary.

  This week we will continue our study of persuasion and the process of writing a persuasive essay.  Please be sure to bring all of the following this week: notes on persuasion and print outs from home about your topic.  On Monday, we will begin planning for partner presentations. You and your partner MUST complete your presentation by the end of class Friday.   Here's the schedule and notes:

FRI.     Complete partner presentations in computer lab   The presentation is due by the end of class today.  HW: if you have not completed your presentations you must either save to a flash drive and complete at home or make arrangements to come in at 8:15 on Monday and/or Tuesday.  It must be saved to your folder on the STUDRIVE during homeroom prior to class on Monday.

October 19-23 Reading Assignments

   This week we have two items on our agenda.  The first will be to continue our journey with Mr. Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.  Be sure to bring your novel and journal everyday this week.  The second item is to complete our study of Lesson #3 Vocabulary.  We will have a test over the definitions and spelling of these words on Wednesday.  Here is our plan:
