          This week is a continuation of our study of persuasive writing.  Our main focus will be to compose a persuasive essay.  It is essential that you have your print out of your Powerpoint presentation to aid in your writing.  The resources below will also provide assistance in composing your essay.  Also, if you didn't have a chance to purchase a book from the book fair last week, go to the following site and shop online: http://www.scholastic.com/schoolbookfairs . MON.   Introduction to writing a persuasive essay, begin draft of introduction to essay  HW: complete draft of introduction, find facts to support your three main focus points if necessary

TUE.   Draft first three paragraphs of essay.  These are based on your three main focus points.  HW: complete draft of first three body paragraphs

WED.  Draft of 4th body paragraph (Opposing Stance, Transition, Rebuttal) along with draft of conclusion  HW: complete draft of 4th paragraph and conclusion

THU. Peer editing of draft of persuasive essay  HW: Make the necessary revisions to your draft prior to tomorrow as we will be publishing in the computer lab.

Oct. 24-28 Language Arts Assignments

          This week we continue our study of persuasion.  Be sure that you have your persuasive writing notes completed from last week.  If you need review, the persuasive presentation previously shown is available below.  There are also valuable resources for writing your persuasive essay below.  We will be having a test over the persuasive writing notes on Thursday.  There will be two days of review and a study guide will be sent home.  Please study!  Here's our tentative schedule:

          This week will be dedicated to partner Powerpoint projects.  We began our storyboards last week and brought in statistics, quotes, and any other facts related to the controversial issue previously chosen.  Please be sure you use your time wisely while in the computer lab this week.  A flash drive is highly recommended.  Partner topics and last week's persuasive writing notes are listed below.  Here's our schedule for the week:

Oct. 10-14 Language Arts Assignments

This week is dedicated to persuasion and persuasive writing. After covering the notes at the beginning of the week, partners will choose a controversial topic to research. Most students have signed up for a topic. I tried to post topics, but wasn't able. We will go over this on Monday. The activity will culminate in a Powerpoint presentation about the topic and their stance. Please search for any information about your topic and print it out (statistics, professionals quotes, etc). It's important that you discern whether the source is reliable. If you have questions about this, please let me know on Monday. Please refer to the presentations covering the notes. Also, please come to class with the proper materials each day.  There are a large number of students that are consistently without a pencil, paper, or their LA binders.  Here's our tentative plan for the week:

Oct. 3-7 Language Arts Assignments

         We have been completing our children's books in preparation for Pajama Day.  Our picture books are due at the beginning of class Tuesday.  Students are encouraged to wear their pajamas on this day and will be sharing their amazing stories!  We have also read the story Rikki Tikki Tavi and will be reviewing the elements of plot.  An introduction to persuasion and persuasive writing begins on Thursday.  CogAt and ITBS testing begins Wednesday and we will have shortened class periods.   Here's our plan for the week:
