Mar. 31-Apr. 4 Language Arts Assignments

     Part of this week will be a continuation of last week's CRCT presentations.  The other portion of this week will focus on the terminology that is frequently used on the language arts section of the CRCT.  It will be critical to study the vocabulary terms given to each student on Wednesday.  Here's our tentative plan:

MON.   Continue CRCT presentations/lessons

TUES.  Continue CRCT presentations/lessons HW: Be sure you have all 20 D.O.L. entries to be checked tomorrow.  You have been given 5 days to prepare for the check in the instance that you had to make-up missing D.O.L.s.

WED.   D.O.L. Check, D.O.L. Quiz over parts of speech, independent/dependent clauses, Receive CRCT Vocabulary List - Grammar Terms, Go over list

     This week we will be focusing on our novel, The Hobbit.  Please be sure to have your book with you all week.  We will continue our vocabulary study following spring break.  Here's the plan for this week:

TUES.  Read Ch #4 in The Hobbit

WED. Read Ch #5 in The Hobbit

THUR. Response to Chapters 1-5 in The Hobbit, begin Ch #6

Mar. 24-28 Language Arts

         We are closing in on our CRCT test for Language Arts with just a few weeks to prepare.  We will be working on a combination of literature review, grammar, and test taking tips over the next few weeks.  Here's the plan for this week.

MON.   Computer Lab - Complete 3rd OAS benchmark test for Language Arts.  This information will be used by students to find strengths and weaknesses.

TUES.  CRCT Review Presentations - In groups, students will prepare lessons about various Language Arts concepts to teach the class. Guidelines/rubrics will be provided in class  HW: Bring materials needed for presentations/lessons

WED.  Continue work on presentation/lesson HW: Make sure your portion of the lesson is prepared for tomorrow's presentations

THUR. CRCT Review Guide, HW: complete the CRCT Scavenger Hunt sheet, bring materials for lessons

FRI.     Presentations/lessons given by groups

Mar. 17-21 Language Arts

           Whew!  What a week we had last week!  We have completed our research work on famous Renaissance figures and enjoyed our Renaissance Day!  It was a lot of work for students, but is was a success. Now... we switch gears.  We are just weeks away from our CRCT test in language arts.  The next few weeks with be a compilation of literature, grammar, and review of past concepts.  Here's this week's plan:

MON          View The Devil's Arithmetic - a follow-up from our literature book story, "Susy & Leah", sensory details sheet (to be completed during the movie)

TUES         Continue Devil's Arithmetic,  sensory details sheet (to be completed during the movie)

WED          Finish Devil's Arithmetic - Go over Sensory Details sheet in groups

THUR.       Partner writing - Using the scenarios provided in class you assume the identity of either a refugee or American and you will create diary entries to explain your point-of-view.  Sentences must be no less than 10 words.  Remember to use sensory words (explain what you see, hear, feel, taste, smell).

FRI.           Complete your partner writing and share in class if possible

Mar. 17-21 Reading Assignments

   This nine weeks focus will be a combination of novel study, plays and skits, and new vocabulary terms.  Please be sure to come to class prepared.  You will always need your vocabulary workbook, silent reading book, and our class novel (once it has been issued).  Fridays will always be dedicated to silent reading and logging your "Books Batted In".  We will take vocabulary tests on Mondays.  They usually occur every other Monday.  Here's our schedule for the week:

Mar. 10-14 Language Arts Assignments

        This week is a big week for us in Language Arts.  Students have completed their drafts for their research papers and have been given one week to type the research paper according to the format in the research packet.  All students will need their LITERATURE BOOKS for the entire week.  PLEASE NOTE FRIDAY'S REQUIREMENTS (downloadable below).

MON.   Organize Renaissance plans for each group (artists, writers, inventors, notable women), Read "Papa's Parrot" in literature book.  Begin work on Plot Development sheet in groups. HW: Complete Plot Development sheet Download papas_parrot_plot.doc 

TUES.  Review plot development sheet, Open book assessment on Papa's Parrot  HW: type research paper, bibliography, and complete poster

WED.  Read/Listen to "Suzy & Leah" in literature book. HW: type research paper, bibliography, and complete poster

THUR. "Suzy and Leah" response/activity,  Preparations for Renaissance Day HW: type research paper, bibliography, and complete poster - DUE TOMORROW!!!!!!

Mar. 10-14 Reading Assignments

       We have finished reading The Hobbit and taken our final Hobbit assessment.  We have one more vocabulary/spelling test for lesson #12.  Please remember to add your book total to the Books Batted In as this is the final week to reach your goal of 18 books!
