Mar. 3-7 Language Arts Assignments

          Our research of Renaissance figures has begun.  We have formatted source cards(5) and note cards (10) for research and have taken a portion of their notes both in-class and in the computer lab.  This week we will begin with a review of the research process and a test on the process on Tuesday.  Please take note of the important dates.  A copy is available below. Please read carefully:

MON.  Review research process/packet.  HW: Study highlighted notes from packet for test tomorrow

TUES.  Test on the research process

WED.  COMPUTER LAB - Last day of research.  HW: Be sure you have a minimum of 5 source cards and 15 notecards completed by tomorrow

THUR.  Begin work on research paper DRAFT with assistance of notecards.  End of class check on note/source cards.

FRI.     Complete draft.  We will discuss proper format for the bibliography on Mon.  HW: Complete draft if necessary.  Draft must be initialled by teacher/parent before final copy is typed.

Feb. 25-29 Language Arts Assignments

       This week we will continue the Renaissance theme as we begin our early stages of research work.  Each student has been assigned a prominent figure from the Renaissance.  Students have already gathered some information at home along with the citation for each piece of information.  It is imperative that students keep up with each stage of the research process as we go.  Here's the schedule:

MON.    Receive RENAISSANCE PACKETS in class.  This is a VERY IMPORTANT PACKET that cannot be lost!   Inside the packet you will find lots of notes and information regarding the research paper, poster, and pertinent Renaissance information.   We will review elements of the packet.  HW: none

TUES.  Continue review of the RENAISSANCE PACKET and format notecards and source cards.  HW: YOU MUST BRING INFORMATION FROM HOME ALONG WITH CITATION TO CLASS TOMORROW - The more the information the better! HW: Make sure you have formated a minimum of 15 note cards and 5 source cards.  FORMATTING DOES NOT MEAN TO TAKE NOTES ON THE CARDS, simply put the required information on the card so it is ready for the notes.

THUR.  COMPUTER LAB research - Please come prepared with your notecards HW: none

FRI.   Split up in groups (Artists, Writers, Inventors, Notable Women) for separate class research.  HW: none

Feb. 25-29 Reading Assignments

        We are finishing The Hobbit over the next few days.  Our Lesson #12 Vocabulary test has been postponed until March 10th.  Remember that you must have a total of 18 books completed by the end of this 9 week period.  Here's the plan:

MON.  Read Ch #14 in The Hobbit

TUES.  Read Ch #15 and complete Lesson #12 keyword activity sheet

WED.  Review The Hobbit up to Ch #15, HW: Complete L #12 Wordboxes (started in class)

THUR.  Read Ch #16 in The Hobbit  (Find types of figurative language used in novel)

FRI.    SILENT READING/ Books Batted In

Feb 20-22 Language Arts Assignments

       Macbeth                         We are moving ahead in our study of Renaissance literature and famous figures this shortened week.  Our next stop is Shakespeare's famous play MacBeth.  We will also be doing periodic checks to prepare for the beginning of our research project.  It is imperative that all students keep up with each step of the process.  Check the weblog frequently for updates.  Here's this week's plan:

MON.     No School (PRESIDENTS' DAY!)

TUES.    No School

WED.   Read/Perform Shakespeare's MacBeth, Bring print-outs of information you have found about your famous Renaissance figure. You must have the citation with this (the easiest way to do this is through Cobb Virtual Library, as these sites will cite sources for you).  Turn in your six(6) OAS tests, stapled together.  HW: none

THUR. Continue reading/performing MacBeth, Complete the MacBeth response sheet  HW: none

FRI.     Perform the 32-second MacBeth in groups.  Compare and Contrast sheet HW: Be sure to come to class on Monday with the information about your Renaissance figure and your blank 4x6 notecards.

Feb. 20-22 Reading Assignments

       Hobbit_1                         This week in reading we will be continuing our journey through Middle Earth in The Hobbit.  We are nearly at the climax of Bilbo's trek to meet Smaug.  Don't forget that we will also be taking the Lesson #11 Test on vocabulary and spelling.  Please be prepared.  You have flash cards to help you study.  Here's the schedule:

WED. Lesson #11 Vocabulary/Spelling Test, Continue chapter 12 in The Hobbit

Feb. 11-15 Language Arts

       We will continue to explore the Renaissance through Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.  PLEASE take advantage of the Renaissance Hypermedia site over the coming weeks.  It is located in the Renaissance category on the left of the weblog.  Students should have already visited the site and chosen their top three favorite famous Renaissance figures.  One will be assigned to each student this week.  We will begin the research process next week, but students will begin searching for information about their person this weekend.  Remember, any information printed out must be cited.  Feel free to use http://www.citationmachine.net to get correct citation for a book or web source and print it out along with your information.

MON.    Begin reading/performing Shakespeare's play "ROMEO & JULIET"

THUR.  Continue viewing West Side Story , continue comparison sheet HW: continue taking the Georgia OAS online tests for language arts.  To take each test: 1) log on to http://geogiaoas.org  2) Enter 10 digit GTID number (in your agenda) and the password is education.  3) Choose student viewed tests  4) take test and print score 5) Repeat for all 6 tests DUE NEXT WEDNESDAY!
