Jan 8-11 Language Arts Assignments

      Welcome Back!  I hope you have a a relaxing and enjoyable break.  Ready... Set.... Go!  We will begin our unit on expository writing this week.  Expository writing is, in very simple terms, a means of explaining a topic thoroughly.  The main focus this week will be creating your own "How To" list.  You will receive notes and a packet to guide you this week.  You will be asked to list steps accurately and thoroughly to teach the class how to do/create something.  Here's more information and the week's schedule:

TUES.   Expository Writing Notes Download expository_writing_notes.doc , paper folding activity  HW: Newton's Cradle (Packet pages 44, 45, 46, 47) 

WED.  COMPUTER LAB - Sequencing and Expository activities  HW: none

THURS. Choose a "How to..." topic.  Download how_to_list.doc You may choose a topic from the downloadable list here or choose another topic with teacher permission. Begin expository writing assignment (Packet pages 48, 49)     Download how_to_paper_directions.doc  HW: complete "How to" directions final copy TYPED, (Extra Credit - bring material needed to demonstrate your "How to") - BOTH THE PACKET AND THE TYPED "HOW TO" EXPOSITORY PIECE ARE DUE FRIDAY!

FRI.  Share your "How To" expository piece and... if you would like, you may demonstrate your "How To" in class.  You will need to turn in both the packet and the final, typed copy of your "How To".  HW: none

Jan 8-11 Reading Assignments

             Welcome back!   I hope you enjoyed your break.  This nine weeks focus will be a combination of novel study, plays and skits, and new vocabulary terms.  Please be sure to come to class prepared.  You will always need your vocabulary workbook, silent reading book, and our class novel (once it has been issued).  Fridays will always be dedicated to silent reading and logging your "Books Batted In".  We will take vocabulary tests on Mondays.  They usually occur every other Monday.  Here's our schedule for the week:

MON.    No School

TUES.   Introduction to Lesson #8 Vocabulary terms, Wordboxes   HW:  Complete Wordboxes

WED.   Lesson #8 Skits - Groups will be given a setting to perform a skit that incorporates all of the Lesson #8 vocabulary terms

Dec. 17-21 Language Arts Assignments

        Last week we completed our study of nouns and pronouns.  Please check i-Parent frequently as the noun/pronoun test has been added (as of 12/16).  Students have been compiling their daily D.O.L.s in their LA notebooks.  Thursday we will check the 20 D.O.L.s that have been completed and will take a D.O.L. test.  The holidays are upon us.  Here's our schedule:

MON.    Preliminary Spelling Bee,  Make list of the top five most wanted gifts and top five least wanted gifts.  HW: none

TUES.   Receive your "gift".   Write a thank you letter describing the gift you received. Guidelines can be downloaded here. Download thank_you_letter.doc HW: complete your thank you letter

WED.   COMPUTER LAB - Type your thank you letter.  HW: make sure you have all of your D.O.L.s in order 

THURS. D.O.L. check and test.  Share your gift and your thank you letter HW: none

FRI.    SMART FAIR! - Do not bring any materials to school

   

Dec. 17-21 Reading Assignments

        This week we will continue Lesson #8 activities and our plays.  We have enjoyed watching the performances of previous plays.  Be sure to study Monday night for our last vocabulary test for this nine week period.  Here's the schedule:

TUES.  Lesson #8 Vocabulary/Spelling Test HW: none

Dec. 10-14 Language Arts Assignments

        This week will continue our study of pronouns.  We have covered a large amount of material over the past two weeks related to nouns and pronouns.  In order to retain all this information, students must take study both the noun and pronoun notes, along with the study guide provided in class this past Friday.  We will be having a test on nouns and pronouns on Thursday of this week.  Here's this week's schedule:

MON.     Noun/Pronoun Review with BEYOND QUESTION   HW: Study Guide for test

TUES.    Pronoun Packet #2    HW: Complete Pronoun Packet, Study Guide for test
