Dec. 3-7 Language Arts Assignments

         We are transitioning from our study on nouns to focus on pronouns this week.  This week's instruction and activities will be solely on the different types of pronouns and their proper usage.  Please study your notes for pronouns, as they are more in-depth than your noun notes.  The power point presentation below reviews the majority of this week's information.  Also, please keep current on your assignments and grades through i-Parent.

Nov. 26-30 Language Arts Assignments

          We have finished our unit on persuasive writing and will begin to review and study new concepts dealing with grammar the next few weeks.  This week we will focus on nouns and everything that pertains to them.  Please write down homework assignments over the next few weeks.  You will need your workbook all week.  They are always posted in the classroom and on this weblog.  Parents are urged to check i-Parent frequently to keep up to date with progress.  Here's our schedule for this week.

Nov. 12-16 Language Arts Assignments

     Autumn                                                                                                                        Our main focus this week is to continue creation of our individual persuasive essays.  Please feel free to use any of the resources on this website to review if necessary.  We have broken down the six paragraph essay into chunks to be composed, revised, and edited as we progress.  Below are some of the resources available to you.  A schedule for the week follows.

MON.     Review 2nd paragraph of the body.  Begin writing the 3rd paragraph of the body.  Your topic sentence for the paragraph is based on your third focus point in your thesis. HW:  Complete Paragraph 3 in your draft.   OPTIONAL: Continue to type your draft at home as we proceed.

TUES.      Review 3nd paragraph of the body.  Begin writing the opposing stance/rebuttal paragraph of the body.  Your topic sentence for the paragraph is based on your third focus point in your thesis.  HW:  Complete opposing stance/rebuttal paragraph in your draft.   OPTIONAL: Continue to type your draft at home as we proceed.

WED.      Review opposing stance/rebuttal from yesterday.  Begin writing conclusion for essay.  Be sure to follow format provided in class and in notes. HW:  Complete conclusion paragraph.  Begin typing essay if you haven't already begun.  Final Copy is DUE FRIDAY!

     We are in the middle of our journey to Smaug in The Hobbit.  Please be sure to continue reading your own novel at home.  You will need a total of 9 books at the 4 1/2 weeks point and 12 at the end of the nine weeks.  Here's this week's schedule:

Nov. 7-9 Language Arts Assignments

      In this shortened week, we will continue our study of persuasive writing.  Students have worked with partners to create a power point presentation that discusses a controversial issue.  Each student will begin to create the structure of their own persuasive essays this week.  They will be using the same topic as they have used for their power point presentations.  We will be breaking the essay into paragraphs that will be analyzed and revised throughout the next two weeks.  The final essay is due next Friday, the 16th.  An outline of the essay and notes on creating a bibliography are provided below.  We have also :

WED.       Finish PPT presentation, analyze all elements of a persuasive essay.  Discuss "hooks" and thesis statements.  Evaluate important background information about your topic.  Begin writing introduction to persuasive essay.  HW:  Complete introduction paragraph, Bring important background information on your topic.

THURS.  Peer editing of introductory paragraph.  Students will follow a editing checklist.  Begin writing 1st focus point in body of essay.  HW: Complete 1st paragraph of body.

FRI.       Peer editing of 1st paragraph of body (1st focus point of thesis).  Begin writing 2nd paragraph of body (2nd focus point of thesis) HW: Complete 2nd paragraph of body.

Nov. 7-9 READING Assignments

         In this shortened week we will continue to study vocabulary words for Lesson #6.  Our test on Lesson #6 will be Monday.  We will also continue reading our novel, The Hobbit.  Please keep up with the reading in class and required reading at home.  Here's the schedule:
