2011-2012

Physical Education is the shared responsibility of the student, home, school, and community.  The Physical Education program in the Cobb County School District, provides each student with the information and skills needed to be active and healthy.  Through these programs, students are provided a foundation to be healthy and ready to participate in the total school program.

Ms. Spatch-

Ms. Spatch has been teaching middle school Physical Education for 24 years. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Georgia. Ms. Spatch was recognized as the Georgia Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the year in 2002-2003.

 

Ms. White-

Ms. White has been teaching middle school Health and Physical Education for 17 years. She earned her Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education from Kennesaw State University.

 

Coach Daniel-

Coach Daniel has been teaching middle school Physical Education for 7 years. He is the head freshman football coach at Walton High School. Coach Daniel earned his Bachelors in Exercise Science and Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education from Georgia College & State University. He has recently completed his Specialist Degree in Technology in Education from Lesley University.

FLOOR HOCKEY UNIT

Congratulations to our floor hockey winners for the 3rd nine-weeks. The students did a great job learning the game of hockey and competing for the Dodgen title.

We are continuing to work-on fitness to improve Fitnessgram test scores and to increase the overall physical health of our students. We are incorporating lunges, balance movements, sit-ups, push-ups, and a variety of other exercises to challenge the students while having fun doing so.

Our next phyiscal eduation unit is indoor soccer and we look forward to starting that next week. We hope that it goes as well as our hockey unit.

WELCOME BACK STUDENTS

Welocome back to the 3rd 9 weeks. We hope everyone had a good and relaxing holiday break. Students be ready to come back and go full force.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• The student will observe the rights of other students to learn.
• The student will be quiet while the teacher is providing instruction.
• The student will strive to follow written and verbal instructions.
• The student will be on time for class and will sit in the assigned area.
• The student will be expected to dress-out and participate in all activities to the best of his/ her ability.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION

• White or Grey background t-shirt
• Athletic shorts
• Athletic shoes and socks
• Locks and lockers will be provided

INTRAMURALS:

Intramurals start @ 8:15-Mon, Tues, and Thursdays, (Friday-Birdie Bashers)

Dodgen also offers a before school intramural program.  The philosophy of the Dodgen Middle School Intramural Sports Program is to provide every student the opportunity to participate in competitive and non-competitive sports in a recreational environment.  In this environment, participation is stressed rather than winning.  Students experience success and enjoyment through participation.  The intramural program will meet the needs of all middle school students, not just the athletically gifted.  The program also gives students the opportunity to develop leadership and social skills.

Dodgen's Badminton Club (Birdie Bashers) meets during Intramurals @ 8:00 on Fridays (7th and 8th graders). The Dodgen Badminton Club is cooler than your Dad's high-school mullet.
